spk_1:   1:18
Oh, thank you. Glad to be here.

spk_0:   1:21
Excellent. Um I mean, starting right in. I was sent over. Um, the advanced track of your new song, believe Premier Latest project, which I believe is called Music Box. Right? Correct. Correct. Hey, um and it's the Mitch Very group, I believe. Yeah, okay.

spk_1:   1:42
Otherwise known as GJ.

spk_0:   1:45
Yeah. Yes, that's right. It was I was actually on your site this morning, shocking it out. Watching a bunch of the that short 10 minute video is on there. And what? Not listening to getting a preview of some of the stuff that in the recording and what not so And it sounds really good, by the way.

spk_1:   2:06
Oh, well, thank you. Glad you like. I'm really proud of it. You know, it's the record I wanted to make for a long time. Well, for various reasons, we finally have it.

spk_0:   2:20
Um, So tell me about a bit about the album itself. Uh, kind of always liked this specific details. Like you guys were in a real studio and I believe you. Did you produce the album?

spk_1:   2:33
But yeah, I produced it. Um, yeah, we recorded it. You know, e by one of the things that is, I think come out of the pro tools. Age is just so so hard to fight the temptation to thank you things bigger and perfect and more bigger and more perfect. And you just disguise limits. Easy. Oh, to do all that stuff. And you can have anyone record from anywhere. Yeah, yeah, ours. But the thing is, what you lose it of that is the whole, the whole magical when people play together, you know, And And so when I when I went to make this record, I was determined that water the basic tracks wouldn't remain the basic tracks. In other words, there is no There was no recording the drums and then layering everything over there. What with the band played on the basic track is what we added stuff, too. But the basic track is facing track, and we didn't use a cliff. And so, you know, we're not trying to line anything up to a grid or make a perfect or Kwan ties it we made Our decision is based on how it felt and and hopefully that will separated from a lot of the other records that were made right now, because while they're great, I just I lose something in things that are just so perfect these days,

spk_0:   4:19
right? Did you did Did you record on tape or did it Was it all the

spk_1:   4:24
way we were planning on going to sewage? But, you know, um, when it came down to actually recording, we just run straight to Dr

spk_0:   4:39
Ximena. Tape is like, I understand that tape. It's hard to get these days, and it's very expensive.

spk_1:   4:46
Boyd. That wasn't really the reason. The reason Waas Tal Bergman, who plays drums on this record, has an incredible studio. Um, and that's where we tracked everything. And we use what they have there.

spk_0:   5:05
That makes sense. Um, I was I mean, Onix. I'm excited to hear the whole album because the stuff that I heard and it's it just it's got that, you know, and you have mentioned it. Going back to that will sound that seventies, you know, that classic rock blues, any type of thing. And I cannot wait to hear it.

spk_1:   5:27
Great. Well, you won't be disappointed. I mean, one of the things that was also important to me when we made the record is that all the tracks coexist with each other well, and all the facts keep you into it and excited enough that you don't feel the need like you just serve the best on you. Turn it off. When those records you could put on that runs and get long stand for 45 minutes.

spk_0:   5:56
Yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited for that. It's just and and to me, it seems like one of those Those like albums you want to listen to, like, you're gonna sit down and you're gonna listen to it, and you're gonna listen to a specifically and just, you know, focus on it were something. You've gotten an album, and you're like, it's kind of background noise, and you're not really paying attention to it. You're hearing it, but you're not. And that's kind of kind of what I get from what I've heard so far.

spk_1:   6:22
Well, I'm totally happy that that's what you're getting, because that is totally what was intended. Thought

spk_0:   6:29
of excellent. Um, I mean, I heard a clip of still miss you. It's that's killer one. Um, I went and I was watching you play the solo, and you had mentioned that that you it was one of those ones you really had to work out before you reported it. And as I'm listening to it and I'm a guitar player myself So, um, I was watching intently. There's a vibe broad. Oh, band. And then there's that little scrape going into the note, and then you do this really cool run in it. And I was like, That's just it. It was just perfect, huh? How long would you say it took you to actually work through that solo too, So that you've got it to where you really wanted it to sound perfect.

spk_1:   7:14
Oh, you know, I'll tell you, um, not really long to get It was more. It was more than composition of it. And and I didn't work out with the guitar, My hand that I worked it out. You know, I would sing the solo in my head when I when I got things I liked, I would, you know, kind of put that down there saying that solo in my head a little bit more refined it. But I do it that way rather than just letting my fingers do it. Because sometimes when you do solos like that, you have to really create a melody. And to do that, probably sometimes I if you just run the scales, you know it It becomes a get a little generic because you just let it scare you Don't find out, stat er unique to that to that little you know. So that's why I couldn't tries trying to imagine it before I buy it. And then when I play, you know, I have a go on your target on. I'm sure it's not that hard. It

spk_0:   8:26
asking. It's I mean, isn't it? It blew me away. I listen to it and I was like, Wow, it just if it fit The song is one. It fit the song perfectly what you did. And I was really paying attention to what you were doing so to me. That says, it's a good soul. You know, it's like that. You can play solo and it's just soul right. But there's there's certain solos that you're just like you remember every note and you know you can all sing them right.

spk_1:   8:55
Well, to me, you have a funny you know, I played with Michael Shaker and that means one of you say he was one of my two inspirations when I started playing guitar self. You know, there's that, but of all the great amazing stuff he's played and there's a ton of it, you know, my favorite moment is no, only you can rob me.

spk_0:   9:19
Really.

spk_1:   9:20
That is the epitome of what I think guitars all we should do for a song. I mean, it takes a song that you know at one level and Manisha. It's a nice staircase right up to another level. And that's what that song does perfectly. You hear the technique, you hear the style, you hear the sound, but you also hear a melody that you can sake.

spk_0:   9:48
Yeah,

spk_1:   9:49
and that makes it special.

spk_0:   9:52
Yeah, and I totally agree with that and there's I mean, there's there's various solos. I mean, I remember back in the day people talking about make Mars for Motley Crue and he wasn't didn't put him in the class with other people. But now, when I listened to it, you listen to certain solos on you came actually seeing those melody parts that he's playing. So those air, the solos, that kind of sick it in my mind,

spk_1:   10:15
Yeah. I mean, when God, that that is true, I'm thinking more when I I looked for my guitar influence Doesn't probably be more like Garry Moore. Yeah, I'm always gonna love you. That is a great solo. I mean, this is, you know, a You know, it is melody and passion and everything. It doesn't just have to be simple. You know, Ray, are you Could you could have technique and all, you know so but it doesn't have to forget why it's there, which is to service on,

spk_0:   10:55
right? So So I'm going to the musicians on the album. You kind of went in a different direction where you have three three singers, which I think it's really cool. And, um, I think it's I think it's amazing because, uh, bring so much stuff. Tell me about the singer and why it was the direction you want it.

spk_1:   11:20
Okay, One of the reasons I wanted multiple seders on it is one because, you know, I wrote all the songs on the record. I knew how I wanted a song, and I knew I needed, You know, I knew I needed a couple of different types of voices. And I also figures, since it's going to be Mitch Perry Project is it's silly to have one frontman to focus on. I'll understand it off to the side, playing guitar. You know, I thought it might make it more interesting, have different singers on and make that here, you know, like, you put them away while the other one comes up saying, but you utilize everyone in a way that they're always throwing the ball back and forth between the two of them, but never jumping out of the picture of the three dimensional Howard doing that, you know, And, uh, yeah, that's pretty much why I went that way. When you hear the singers, I mean, all three of them are nominal, is different ways. I'm either world class singers and pretty evident why effect on the keys the England's voices are into These is good as anybody, uh, seeing that style of music. He sounds this razor sharp and cut a dash in love the way he delivers it Way have ah showing Manet who, uh, is a crazy sugar. She used Thio, worked out at Muscle Shoals and had a career in Germany for the last few years. An awesome singer, um, slurring Janis Joplin reincarnated. And then we have character. Who's the singer you heard on? I still wish you a nice, smooth, your type of voice. And when Shelley as and the three of them settled great together. So that's how we wound up in them On the record.

spk_0:   13:38
That's perfect. Remember Shelley? I mean, in that video, she kind of lose the fact, Um, that everybody was Everybody was challenged, um, to do better and to be amazing. It, um I mean, not vocal. She does. I think it's it doesn't say what the song is, So I mean, just going from what the vocals were, or the lines where no one knows what it's like. You know what? Okay, Pardon me.

spk_1:   14:08
That's called the pain

spk_0:   14:10
the pain. Okay, so and and she just I mean, she's just killing it. It just sounds amazing. And, uh, so it was And I mean, I'm assuming, And she said you were challenging them, and, you know, just that just don't make it a little bit better. So I guess more or less in your head. You like you had alluded to before you had it What you want and not to sound like And what you wanted something or studio. I take it.

spk_1:   14:37
Oh, yeah. No, it wasn't a matter of here's guitar chords. Throw, uh, you know, here somewhere, sir. Vogel. I was pretty pretty, huh? Decided on where I wanted to Melody's todo and how I wanted to go. And the funny thing is, I am not a singer. And so some of the things I did maybe we're, uh, you know, totally natural toe, you know? So what you would stew if you're singing off, you know, off. You know, the moment you know it sometimes it was funny how some things that you would think would be completely simple would be harder to do, because they just, you know, we're not used to think that the way I was asking him to do it. But, you know, they rosy gazes and did better. Better than I'd ever hoped. You know, I'm just some some brown whatever went out. Director did.

spk_0:   15:45
When? When does the release? When is the album actually going to be released?

spk_1:   15:50
Well, you know, this is his flocks with everything that's going on with fluid thing. You know, we have record that we're pressing plant, you know, just have hard copies. Obviously, there's additional stuff which we will have up and running fairly certain the fairly soon should be within a week. And I do believe that the single was out already on. All right, um, but the record should be up within the week. And our copy should also be hell hole in a month. But, you know, wear with the mercy of what's going on around us right now.

spk_0:   16:34
Yeah, No kidding. I mean, they're here in Canada there, saying three months. So we're, um I just It's just My daughter just told me that actually, she's like, you know what they're saying? Three months. I was like, What? Wow. Well, okay. We're getting a lot more cases here in the last in the last week or so. So,

spk_1:   16:55
yeah, Issa's horrible. You know, it's just unbelievable what it's doing right now.

spk_0:   17:04
No kidding. No kidding. So I guess in terms of any touring, if you have planned to do to ring or doing shows us kind on hold as well that

spk_1:   17:12
that Yeah. I mean, you know, obviously what it will do is give us a chance to get all our ducks in a row. We from front will do by then, you know? But, um, you know, we're we're waiting until, uh, we find out what's next. Before you plan anything further that way.

spk_0:   17:34
Yeah. So in terms of the rest of the musicians on the band, you didn't live to the drummer. Who else played on the album?

spk_1:   17:41
Okay, well, yeah, talent drums, in case, you know, Tell has played with was he's been in job out of Masa Span for the last five years. And he also was in Billy I'll for Yeah, he didn't cradle loving all those songs I was and other recordings, and, um then we got damn big name on Basie is in Jack Russells, Great white, But he also played with Montrose for a wild, um, keyboards. We have a bunch of keyboard players, and I play a lot of B three on the record. Um, we and then we have some really great keyboard players and rock, um, throughs. Play with Glenn Hughes and Plan X, also our city. He's in a band with Romney Crater. Now we have days shoals and playing with the Goo Goo Dolls. Not about follow guy

spk_0:   18:44
e Guess it used to be.

spk_1:   18:48
And then, uh, well, still we have on the regular we had J. T. Thomas. Uh, you're from Bruce Hornsby's band. Um, way had Steve AGL are in place with tomorrow's bad sees there are, you know, so we have a bunch of different people come in and at keyboards. Uh, then I had Kochi Reichman on and King playing horns on it and countries from Rod Stewart's band hairs from Guns, Roses and see Doug Pettibone uh, play pay a pedal steel on wasted time. And he also played the slide guitar. Huh? A Nestle share, and he's just bad ass he's from. He's from John Mayer's fanned Just know why Guitar where

spk_0:   19:46
I may I mix? I mean, when you mentioned be three That excites me because I love the B three Hammond organ. I love hearing that in music. So that's

spk_1:   19:55
you, that's, you know, like it. I mean, with keyboards, everything that we put on it, you know? I mean, the the actual piano that we used Thio track believe even though if you look at the video, you'll see day of tracking it on the on the, uh I think it's easy on the eyes using or north something. Anyway, um, we tracked it with apple. We went back and overdubbed the piano and we used real piano. Frog? Yeah, bars really be free from all of these three, you know, saying that the world views. I wanted it to be a close to something that was recorded in the seventies as I could get, you know. So

spk_0:   20:44
that's and

spk_1:   20:45
even all I was saying, even all the guitars, I mean straight into the marshal. No battles. Yeah,

spk_0:   20:53
amazing. That's great. Yeah, actually, I do have a question about gets harder, but it's but we'll get to that. We're talking about hard copies. Getting back to that will be released on vinyl or just CD

spk_1:   21:07
CD, but I plan on doing viable as well. I mean, this writer should be our final.

spk_0:   21:12
That's that's why I ask. Yeah.

spk_1:   21:15
No, it absolutely could. I mean, if nothing else, just for the artwork on the cover. I don't know if you see my cover, but the eyes, it needs to be a nice big 12 inch square.

spk_0:   21:28
That's so true. I mean, there's so many albums that you know what? Once they went to CD, it took it took a lot of it away because it's so small. And then you get that 12 inch violent. You're looking at the picture, and that's what you're less. You're looking out when you're listening, right? Yeah. Like in the old days. So remember. Hey. So, anyways, I, um I'm gonna go to the past a little bit. And you didn't mention MSG with Michael Shankar? Yeah, it's been curious about that. The perfect timing album. Did you Did you play on the album? Did you actually get to play on the ball?

spk_1:   22:07
Yeah. This is additional funny story how this ended up happening. I have been managed by weaver and crabs at the time. So it was my and the band that I was in heaven had folded and I was out in l. A. I was about to Yeah, I've been rehearsing. I've done a couple of rehearsals with Pete Way in Ways Hanging Out was a drummer. Johnny D. At the Oakland is where this would be pulling on slipping, and it just so happens that Michael and Robin I came to say the opposite the exact same time. Michael knew me from being in Avon's and he knew I play keyboard because I had added keyboards knocking on Happened Story was in the studio to record Plant while we did that. So um, he came over me and he asked, You know, I wanted Thio that he mentioned they were looking for a guitar blanket for Claire If I'd like todo be fun, but I don't want to play with them all anyway. Well, you do all that happens, stuff your eyes, Yeah, be over that action wacky tab and suffer any T shows, media year guitars that says, You do all this and I don't think people want that nowadays. He says, If you play that way, don't sound like I do you know, maybe this could work because you want to try something on this album. Sure. What are you doing right now? I go swimmin. Yeah, Guitar. You're fired right upstairs. I literally got out of school. Got to get are We went thio the studio and we walk in and Robin's there and Andy Johnson's there. And although Schroeder, whose Thea, the manager from Germany, managed Michael and he managed us for Vincent crabs managed it in America. But anyway, those three guys were sitting there. No, no way. Michael and I walk in and Michael says, Hi, everybody days, This is Mitchell. He's going to try to get up. So I'm giving you have look at him like he's crazy and pulling it to another rover disappear for about 1/2 hour. You know, like, Oh, well, that was nice while it lasted. But you a she came out. I ended up doing the solo on the rest of history, so I didn't get to play on the album and small missing pieces. I ended up in Seoul on getting your love, and I also did solo stuff at the top of Get out. I am on the island, you know, with all the joint in that year, which ruse with, like, shake, uh, Rush Endeavor way we play Toronto. The first Arthur show in North America was that rocket of all happened?

spk_0:   25:31
Wow. No, that's cool. That's very cool. Yeah. So that was just you guys that rock'n'roll loving that?

spk_1:   25:36
Yeah, it was. In fact, you could go on to you too. There's a There's somebody videotape that also found you too.

spk_0:   25:47
I have that. I have that one on vinyl as well. I love that out. So, yeah, it's a great fantastic out on that, I think My seat I have the CD to and it's got the radio ad. It's sensory issue from Japan. And you, um so getting to, um I guess it would be bad boys, which I have that CD in my hand as well. Help, which is,

spk_1:   26:16
uh,

spk_0:   26:16
yeah, And, um, this is I believe I got this from Japan is Well, it's on a very small label, and, um I mean, and I have the maze. Perry. Prozac's is well with, um, that has those some of those same tracks on it, plus the stuff with Ralph stands on it. Um, So tell me, um in terms of bad boys. You guys, you were signed to the pasta records, I believe. Which was Spencer proffers label. And I see the affiliation with pulse 13 on him coming from quiet riot. What? What happened there?

spk_1:   26:54
Okay, this is this is how it went down. Um, I had left Emma. She was looking to put together a band. I mean, I was touring, we share of the time, and I was looking to put together a band with fingers. I was really wanted. Thio check out was Paul Shorty? No. And Paul had a bag called bad boys of the time. It was Sean McNabb. And I can't remember who is dropping. No, it wasn't Kotecha Kotecki been there.

spk_0:   27:41
It's like

spk_1:   27:41
somebody else. Somebody did, and I never some of the guitar player. Oh, I can't remember his name. Me, I, um

spk_0:   27:54
I'm just

spk_1:   27:55
looking. Yeah. So they ended up joining the band, playing on the stuff. We recorded it, Pasha. That ended up more of you to adjust myself the other guitar where, uh, moved on something else. And the bad kind of just just a cell from pasha on leave. Just basically spending a year playing around and have those tracks leading around. They never got any kind of interest, but, you know, as you could hear their master quality and what not throughout that year? Yeah, obviously, since nothing was really her shadow me great, happy. Um, all I kind of lost interest. And we felt that and I seen Ralph phase. So that's why you see that album is the bitch Perry projects, which is too bad is it was really the same band. But when we switched singers we read Aimed is Yard's got Sean McNabb on. You know both things and myself from both things. Ralph Gish honor the difference between bad boys. The drummer situation was we switched drummers from bad boys as well. We ended up getting Paul Monroe from X Y Z instead of rich calls who was on the bad boy stuff.

spk_0:   29:31
Yeah, it's it's interesting to hear Ralph way back then because, to be honest with you, his his phrasing hasn't really changed that much. The way he sings when you listen to steal either. Oh, and for those that don't know, that's Michael Star from Steel Panther that were referring to, um and, um, I just I listen to it and the tracks that he thinks I'm trying. The truck, which star? That's very Van Halen ish David Lee Roth type of thing and silver. I mean, between the two different singers between Paul and Ralph, I think with the rough stuff, it's a little bit more Van Halen oriented. Did did you some constantly want to change the sound a little bit or that's just kind of transpired.

spk_1:   30:23
Just happened. It was It wasn't like we'll do the bad boys songs that you hear that I'm on their therefore, Um, and three of those kind of existed before I showed up. Did I make significant changes? Probably. But you know that still, the style of the substance of the writing is slightly different. And then, you know, you you listen to Paul and Ralph. There's no way they're gonna sing the same song. Just two wildly different singers, both phenomenal in great but you know, wildly different.

spk_0:   31:08
Yeah, and I mean I the one song Leave It to the Law, which is with Paul on, and that's on that I boy CD as well. Yes, that's that's a heavy song like that guitar is heavy compared to I think, anything he didn't Rob Carter. Quiet Riot is a little bit more heavier edged, and I really I really I really did that song and it's,

spk_1:   31:30
you know, I remember I actually tracked that song on the six string neck are busy, rich Double back that I had at the time. Yeah,

spk_0:   31:44
that's kind of cool. And it's, you know, it's funny to the I was listening to it this morning and the lyric line it said, Ah, Billy, don't take that gun to school and and then I'm thinking I'm like, Wow, that was like, kind of way before, you know, like Jeremy by pros,

spk_1:   32:03
Way before ability took the gun to school.

spk_0:   32:05
That's exactly so. I was like, Whoa, eyes. I was thinking, man, like everything that this happened in the world since then. What? I mean, like, school shootings and what not and, ah, But then I read the rest Little Eric's and it wasn't really alluded. It was saying that it was taking the gun to school, but he But it was for a different reason. It was an infidelity of a girlfriend, right? So this pretty

spk_1:   32:29
wait, which is what makes that. All right.

spk_0:   32:32
Well, e

spk_1:   32:35
don't have Don't have a law that you're you could be innocent of murder. Is five a passion or something? They climb back. I I heard that some time baby was just a, uh, a rumor.

spk_0:   32:53
I don't know. I've never heard that. I don't mean in Canada, our laws are different with guns, so I mean, I don't I don't I don't think we're allowed to shoot anybody, as far as I know. I don't

spk_1:   33:03
know. I just remembered. I follow raising. You know, he's really into that. And I remember one of the others in a formula Lefty 11 year, Uh, basically got off a murder charge because he caught his wife. Is somebody Wow. Yeah,

spk_0:   33:27
that's pretty.

spk_1:   33:29
If you have enough money, have a Formula One TV. Probably. I'm not mad. I get a good lawyer, so

spk_0:   33:35

spk_1:   35:05
